Baildy Bridge over Jaidhal river inaugurated

ITANAGAR, May 3: The sorrow of Dhemaji, Jaidhal River was again bridged by a Bailey Bridge of 170 feet span. The bridge was inaugurated by Dr. P Ashok Babu, Dy Commissioner Dhemaji. Earlier the SPT bridge on Jaidhal was washed away in Aug 2009. The SPT bridge was replaced by a 190 ft Bailey bridge on 11 Sep 2009 which was broken by a vehicle in Jan 2010. It is to be noted that truck was carrying 60 MT cement violating all instructions of DC Dhemaji and Board declaring 16 MT gross load might be crossed.

While inaugurating the bridge Dr Babu appreciated the works done by GREF. He congratulated all personnel and CPL for their tireless efforts put in the construction of the bridge over river Jaidhal. The bridge acts as life line for the public of Dhemaji.

ASWDC seeks people’s cooperation

ITANAGAR, May 3: A-Sector Welfare Development Committee (ASWDC) Naharlagun has been entrusted the task of garbage disposal of A-sector under project Capital facelift, informed its chairman Taba Tadap in a release today.

The committee in its executive meeting unanimously decided to support the administration in its endeavour to make Capital green and clean and also urged the residents of A-sector to cooperate with it in performing civic duty.

AAPGDLU mourns death of its executive member

ITANAGAR, May 3: All Arunachal Pradesh Government Department Labours’ Union (AAPGDLU) today deeply mourned the death of its Civil Secretary Unit, Itanagar president Patey Ponglu in a road accident today. Ponglu, an employee of the civil secretariat died in a road accident at Ziro point tinali, here at around 4.30 pm today. The accident occurred while his bike collided with a sand-laden truck coming in the same direction from Naharlagun to Ganga, police sources said. However, truck driver has absconded from the scene, sources informed.

Meanwhile, AAPGDLU civil secretary unit decided to convene condolence meeting on May 4 and urged the Govt to declare a holiday for all contingency staff of Civil secretary to mourn the death of their colleague. The union also conveyed deep sense of condolence to bereaved family.

Army hands over chair to Gelling villagers

ITANAGAR, May 3: In a small ceremony attended by local village folk, Army men and ITBP troops, the Tuting based MAHAR unit of Dah Division, handed over fifty chairs to C Lama and L Tshering, Gaon Buras of Gelling, a picturesque hamlet nestled among the clouds, just a few kilometers from the international border. Army troops, who often pass through the village during routine patrols, have always been welcomed by the villagers with open arms. The chairs were presented by Colonel M Pande as a token of appreciation to the villagers, for the village community hall.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr C Lama, village head said, “On behalf of the entire village and on my own behalf, I wish to convey our gratitude to Brigadier AS Bedi, Commander, Along, who had promised to provide these chairs during his recent visit to our village. We appreciate his kind gesture as it will help us immensely during our village gatherings.” Colonel Pande thanked the Gaon Buras and all villagers for their unflinching support to the defence forces. He said that the chairs are just a small token to strengthen the bonds between the Army and the local population.

Association oppose walk in interview

ITANAGAR, May 3: Arunachal Commerce Students’ Association (ACSA) has vehemently opposed recruitment of eight District Research/Statistic Officers through ‘Walk-in-Interview.’

Recruiting candidates for such district level posts through ‘walk-in-interview’ is quite inappropriate and wrong, the association said while referring to a recent advertisement published in local dailies.

Unlike the past, there are good numbers of qualified and talented candidates for the posts today, who want to pursue it efficiently and sincerely, it said.

While demanding conduct of written competitive examination for the post, the association appealed to the authorities concerned to cancel the earlier advertisement and refer the same to the govt for reconsideration.

Unions demands extension of exams

ITANAGAR, May 3: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, Arunachal Law Students Union has called for extension of Arunchal Pradesh Public Service Commission Main exams which is scheduled on May 31so that it does not collide with University examinations.

AYSU supports bandh

ITANAGAR, May 3: All Yobung Students’ Union (AYSU) has supported the proposed bandh call on May five in protest against non-electrification of Kaying. Electrification of the area was supposed be done by March, 2010, the union claimed, and threatened more such bandh calls in future, if electrification is not done.

APCC fields 125 candidates

ITANAGAR: Indian National Congress (INC) has fielded candidates for all the 125 vacant seats in the ensuing panchayat bye-elections in the state, according to an APCC release.

The bye-elections will be held for 2 zilla parishad, 27 anchal samity and 86 gram panchayat segments in 15 districts excepting Dibang Valley on May 24.

Bandh in Miao subdivision

ITANAGAR: All Tai Khamti Singpho Students Union has called for 24 hrs bandh in Miao subdivision on Tuesday to protest against land grabbing by Chakma refugees at Mpen. The students have further demanded immediate push back of Chakma Hajong refugees to their designated blocks & arrest ofChakma culprits involved in the Mpen violence.

Young student dies

ITANAGAR: Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) and All Nyishi Youth Association (ANYA) deeply mourned the untimely demise of Bamang Jibu, at International Hospital, Guwahati yesterday. Ten year old Jibu, son of Bamang Taji President of IMWA was a class III student of Love Dale Residential School Ziro.

The members of the association prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extended its condolence to the bereaved family members.

Save RGU

Dear Editor,

I want to appeal the concerned authority of the Rajiv Gandhi University and any other organizations who are involved in solving the Vice Chancellor case. Since several months, many people have witnessed that the students studying at University are suffering a lot because they could not concentrate on their studies where as semester system needs a lot of sincerity and concentration. Each unit test is very important for the students.

Paradox is seen, during my M.A. period in the year 2002, the students hardly got time for sports and other curriculum activities owing to tight schedule. Even teachers used to say that both students and teachers have to run 100 meters race to finish the syllabus. I wonder how the present students manage their time for preparation as well as fighting against the VC.

My suggestion is that, students should concentrate on their studies. Unlike B.A./B.Sc., M.A./M.Sc. is a complete mature stage. After completion of M.A. / M.Sc., around 85% students do not go for further studies, thus post graduation is a final stage in student's life.

The name of the university was changed to please the Gandhi family so that Gandhi family may bless the political party of Arunachal Pradesh not necessarily the university. It was not discussed in detail whether indigenous people will get their rights or not in getting job and contract works. Many people opposed the conversion - AU into RGU, but it was done all of a sudden in due consultation with non tribal people. It is true that, tribal people are not aware about many things and continue their ego-culture rather than work-knowledge sharing culture. As a result, job and contract work opportunity is given to them. Now, the vice chancellor of the RGU has to take approval from higher authority for each and every file from Delhi before doing anything. Now it seems RGU is being controlled completely through Delhi in every matter. If it would have been AU then all matters would have been solved in State level.

My sincere request to the student community is to have an observation and analysis well before spending out valuable time in politics - whether the problem is under the parameter of the VC or not? If it is out of the VC's hand then changing of VC will never solve the technical problem. If the present VC is forced to resign unceremoniously then a question may arise that how many VC will be driven away from the University? And if so then one day the university may lose the name and its fame.

Teacher teaches how to be a good human being in this world of woe by providing good education. If the students are out of their control then there must be disunity among the teachers. University should be a role model by setting up some good examples as intellectual persons study there rather than involving in politics. There should not be any space for politics in university premises. University is all about final touch of idea. It is a research institute not the political battle ground. Any hue and cry in university does not match with both students and teachers.

I believe that some persons who participated in a political movement without knowing the interest of the leader pushed them in dire state. So never make yourself fool before proper investigation. My suggestion in solving the matter is to involve/invite the maximum number of ex- students of the university beside present students rather than outsiders and have a productive debate on the subject whether VC is competent or not. I am sure; a concrete conclusion will come out in favour of the university and students.

We would like to know the stand of APPSC

Dear Editor,

In view of many reports and demands regarding the rescheduling of the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Mains exmination, I would like to bring to the notice of the Arunachal Pradehs Public Service Commission that a lot of confusion has been generated in the minds of the students following request for postponing of the exams by the students of the Rajiv Ghandi university.

Due consideration should be given to the interest of all concerned in deciding the matter by the commission. As postponement will not be detrimental to any candidate while non postponement will cause grave inconvenience to the students of the university.

The commission should immediately decide on the matter and let the students know if the examination is on schedule or are being postponed as delay and indecisiveness is causing great inconvenience to the students.

Are we not answerable to coming generation?

Dear Editor,

The hue and cry of the masses to bring about the development with transparency and corruption free administration seems to be a sheer ‘No’ from the subsequent governments in our state. It is unfortunate that in the hope of seeing development orientated and people friendly governance, the people become victim of vote bank politics and vote for the ruling Govt time and again.

Except revamping state Apex Bank, few changes in Panchayati Raj system, agreements and deals with hydro power developers, implementing revised pay structure, paying arrears/bonus to the employees, nothing visible changes have been observed.

There has been regular flow of central fund through various schemes/projects besides crores of rupees in the form of grant-in-aid. The financial year of 2009-10 is strengthened with about 3500 crores grant in aid, adding about 1100 crore received from hydro project developers. But in practical nothing much can be seen in Arunachal.

In addition, the state Govt takes loan from various financial institutions and even open market borrowings. It is also learnt that the loans amounting to about Rs 800 crore taken by the state Govt since 2004-05 is yet to be repaid and its interests are rising higher.

Much has been already said on the processing fees and upfront premium received by the Govt from Power developers to the tune of more than Rs 1000 crore and the latest fiasco on non-formulation of AOP by the state Govt. With such unaccountable financial figure of the Government and the development scenario taking place, it can be well said we the people of Arunachal Pradesh and our generation to come, have been mortgaged in advance to suit the party in power to run its government at the cost of its people, thereby obviously parting with share of fruits and developments of common masses to those in the helm of affairs.

It is said that in many interior parts of Tirap district, people are still eating Katchu as staple food. Where is the repeated- streamlined Public Distribution System?

Should we keep mum and just dance to the tune of the state government? Is there any way to come out from the mortgage? Let our intellectuals and senior citizens wake up and decide if we are heading to right direction. Are we not answerable and accountable to the would be deteriorating condition of our younger generation?

A show piece named BSNL mobile tower

Dear Editor,

The BSNL Mobile towers erected in Raga township has been lying defunct and standing tall like a show piece for visitors for the last half decade. I had personally approached the authorities concerned several times urging them to renovate the defunct towers, but yielded no results.

Such an irresponsible attitude of the authorities evokes sentiments of the local villagers. How many years, the authorities need to renovate the towers? Now the power developers are likely to step in our areas to harness power potentials. Under such circumstance, restoration of mobile tower is urgently required.

Therefore, I on behalf of the people of Boa-Simla, Tamin, Kamporijo, Repari, Aye, Buscamp, Bomte villagers, Govt officials and Congress workers under Raga segments once again appeal the BSNL authorities to renovate and make the mobile towers functional.

Please do something for Anini

Dear Editor,

I would like to request the authority to provide relief sorties for Anini. Due to incessant rains for months together devastating landslides and flood have destroyed the lone road connectivity to irreparable state. As a result the district remains cut off from the world. The people are suffering for acute shortage of ration commodities. Besides, the people who had been out of the district for education, business are stranded in Roing and are facing a hard time because of expenses incurred due of a long stay at Roing.

Furthermore, the condition of the district hospital at Anini is haphazard and lacks the basic medicines and equipment to treat the people suffering from several illness. It is sad to see that the development of an alternate road from Amuli region through Etabe and Alinye under the RWD PMGSY scheme which is entrusted to some contractors is in rudimentary and underdeveloped state. The district’s lifeline is hence totally severed.

So it is my earnest request to the local MLA and the state Govt. to provide necessary relief aerial facility till the devastated road connection is connected.

Action plan against drug abuse in Arunachal

‘HIV/ AIDS scenario in state alarming’

ITANAGAR, May 3: The Regional Resource and Training Centre (RRTC) North East -II today chalked out an action plan demanding de-addiction centres in each district under social welfare or health department in Arunachal Pradesh. The action plan was prepared by resource persons and NGO representatives after a day-long orientation/ sensitization programme on ‘drug abuse prevention’ held here.

The programme conducted by the Nagaland based RRTC was sponsored by the National Institute of Social Defence under the union ministry of social justice and empowerment, Govt of India.

It was unanimously resolved that state Govt should establish a Narcotic Cell under police department in order to effectively tackle the cases of drug abuse in the state.

The Govt should come out with effective and proper policy to compensate the opium cultivators so that they could find out alternative sources for livelihood and the there should be independent Govt agency to support and motivate the NGOs working in the field of drug abuse prevention in the state, read the action plan.

Stressing on continued and uninterrupted awareness campaign against the HIV/AIDS, evil effects of drug, including opium by the Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs), the action plan advocated that educational institutes and the media, both print and electronic must be involved in such campaign to reach the mass population. Moreover, there should be literary programme on drug abuse among the students, street play and counseling facilities for the family of the drug addicts.

The members also advocated for more orientation programme by the RRTC in Arunachal.

Earlier, RRTC (NE-II) Director Dr P Ngully explained in brief about the activities being taken up by the National Institute of Social Defence under the union ministry of social justice and empowerment, Govt of India.

The Ministry has set up a National Centre for Drug Abuse Prevention (NCDAP) in the National Institute of Social Defence (NISD) for capacity building and training of Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) running Counseling and De-addiction Centres. It has also nominated reputed NGOs working in the field of drug abuse prevention as Regional Resource and Training Centres (RRTCs) for imparting training in local cultural setting to service providers working in various De-addiction Centres and for undertaking advocacy, research and monitoring of drug abuse programmes.

During 2006-2009, the RRTC has conducted 56 training programmes in Meghalaya, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. Giving a detail scenario of the drug addicts in the three state of the North East, Ngully informed that drug addicts should be kept under observation and treatment for 90 days in rehabilitation centre, but the fund allocated by the concerned ministry for such treatment and observation is only for one month duration, he lamented.

He said apart from continued physical treatment, the drug addicts need psychological treatment, which was not possible due to lack of fund.

When his attention was drawn towards the opium menace in Lohit and other district, Ngully called upon the local NGOs to come forward to implement the programs being launched by the concerned union ministry to fight opium menace.

Highlighting the drug and HIV scenario in Arunachal Pradesh, another resource person Dr Emi Rumi, project director of Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (APSACS) said that HIV/AIDS scenario in Arunachal Pradesh is alarming. He said rampant intravenous drug use has made the situation worse.

At present Arunachal has 158 HIV/AIDS patients, highest being in Papum Pare -90. Second Lohit with 28 HIV/AIDS patients. Already 8 district has come under the category of ‘B’, Rumi informed.

The maximum drug users in various form comprises large chunk of school-drop out, Rumi said while adding that the need of the hour is coordinated effort by concerned departments including police, he added.

Regarding prevention measures against opium menace in Lohit district, the APSCAS project director observed that not only in Lohit district, opium cultivation is being carried out in other parts of the state such as some areas of Upper Siang. But timely intervention, awareness campaign can help the masses keep away from the rampant use of opium, he said. He stressed on setting up of de-addiction centre in Lohit to reduce opium menace.

Dr Tomo Riba, Controller of Examination, Rajiv Gandhi University, expressed serious concern over the opium menace in some districts of the state.

Riba who had launched a crusade during 2002 against use of opium in Lohit district under UNDP programme called for concerted approach involving school children to bring out the people from this menace.

Opium has almost ruined the economy of the people, Riba said and called upon one and all to at least save the next generation from the clutches of opium menace.

The members also observed one minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul of Late Ravi Kipa, senior medical officer (SMO) of state health department. He died in a road accident in Digboi town in Assam recently. Dr. Ravi, who was SMO of Kharsang PHC, was well known throughout the state for his work towards drug de-addiction.

MLA serves 3 days ultimatum to government

ROING, May 3: Laeta Umbrey, Member of Legislative Assembly and former Lok Sabha MP in a letter to the Deputy Commissioner Lower Dibang Valley District have served three days ultimatum to the govt. to alter decision of awarding PDS Whole Sale Nominee-cum-Carriage Contractor of Lower Dibang Valley District to Dambuk based Sirang Women Handloom Cooperative Society. In his letter address to the Deputy Commissioner today, he alleged that the said society has failed to deliver the PDS items to the citizens of the district for the last two consecutive years and has quoted the highest rate in the tender bidding also. He requested the Deputy Commissioner of the district not to sign the Deeds of Agreement which was to be signed today and rather requested her to send the performance of the said society to the govt with facts and figures. While submitting the ultimatum Umbrey said, “being an elected representative of the district, it is my primary duty to see that deliberate injustice is not done to the people whom I have promised to deliver justice”. In his letter he warned of taking series of non-violence democratic measures until the decision is not altered.

Y W Ringu, Deputy Commissioner of the district said that the findings of the tender opened on Feb 18 last by a board under the chairmanship of A. Pertin, EAC (Judicial) was forwarded to the govt. without recommendations in favour of any firms for decision to be taken at the govt level. She forwarded Umbrey’s letter to the govt for necessary direction today itself.

Tender for PDS wholesale Nominee-cum-Carriage Contractor for Lower Dibang Valley District was floated on Jan 27 last and closed and opened on Feb 18 by a board headed by EAC(Judicial) Roing. Idu-Padam Transport Co-operative Society, DV Lamps, Roing and Sirang Women Handloom Cooperative Society, Dambuk has bid for the same.

The govt has appointed Sirang Women Handloom Cooperative Society, Dambuk as the Wholesale Nominee-cum-Carriage Contractor for the district for the year 2010-11 vide Govt Order No.SCS-95/2005 VoL-I Dtd April 12’ 2010. (DIPRO)

Entry of Livestock banned after outbreak of FMD

Seppa, May 3: East Kameng has restricted the entry of lives stock to the district to prevent further spread of Foot and Mouth disease after it broke out in several pockets.

As a preventives measure, the vaccination program was taken up in the Seppa township area including Bana while a team has been sent to Pakke-Kessang and Pakro for treatment of ailing livestock and vaccination. District veterinary officer, Dr. S. Karki Bhooyaan, informed that department officers and staff have been directed to report to their respective posting places for vaccination of live stock against FMD.

Required vaccines and medicines for the purpose have already been procured from Nirjuli.

The outbreak of the epidemic was reported to the District Animal Husbandary and veterinary office, Seppa on April 25. (DIPRO)

APSWC concerned at rising violence incidence against women

ITANAGAR, May 3: The Arunachal State Commission for Women (APSCW) has raised grave concern on the rising incidences of violence against women in the state.

This call came after instances of the recent case of attack on Horticulture Development Officer, Yupia on April 30 and the murder of lady business person in April in Lower Subansiri Dist-rict,‘Empowerment of Women, is no longer a social welfare measures but the need of the hour, if our society has to progress’ Komoli Mossang Chairperson of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) stated in a press release.

Instead of appreciation for working women, our society is witness to attack on career women. This is an era of women development and the Government has evolved various safe guards for women in the forms of various laws and regulations. These are instruments that has to be used not only by the administration but also by civil societies, she said calling upon the Govt. for immediate arrest of all accused.

The Chairperson of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) also requested concerned administrations for protection of victims and their families.

AAPSU calls for probe

ITANAGAR, May 3: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) has called for a thorough probe after a newspaper reported that hundreds of Arunachalee students are still languishing in various monasteries of Nepal.

The union sought for immediate setting up of a all party joint committee constituted from elected representatives, civil societies to explore and investigate the unfortunate development within a time period of one month. It said that it would not accept any committee set up by government other then a desired by the union.

Earlier on February 10, six children from Bana Circle of East Kameng escaped from Phuntsok Choeling Monastery Kathmandu reached Bana on March 26.

The Union said that the matter needs urgency at the highest level as the future of hundreds young innocent children are at stake and called on the state government to enumerate the numbers of Arunachalee students studying in different part of the country & world.

Reacting to the news report, the Union further that it is also equally disturbing to know that some officials of state government are involved in sending children abroad in exchange of huge kickbacks.

Under construction RCC Bridge over Dobu River collapses

ITANAGAR, May 3: The NCP appealed for conducting an enquiry to dig out the cause of the collapse of 60 mtrs. under construction RCC Bridge across the Dobu River (Dikari) in Nari, East Siang district. The RCC bridge which otherwise would have the lifeline of the Nari Subdivision unfortunately crumbled like a pack of cards and turned into rubbles of sand and gravels even before the completion on April 23, State NCP Vice President (Admn) Karto Kaye said.

The NEC funded bridge was being executed by PWD.

The party while blaming low quality materials and inefficient technology appealed to the Chief Minister and concerned Minister to take drastic action by fixing responsibilities on the Nodal Department and its Contractors.

The party while demanding suspension of the payments against the bridge wanted to know why it has crumbled as there was no flood or other natural calamity.

The party however said that NCP is not aware if any tender was floated or whether it is being undertaken departmentally by PWD or contractors are engaged.

Chief of army staff visits Dah division

ITANAGAR, May 3:Chief of Army Staff General VK Singh arrived at Khonsa and took a stock of the security situation in the districts of Tirap & Changlang today. He visited various military posts along the LAC in the Dah Division sector. The General, on arrival at Chabua, was received by Lieutenant General Bikram Singh, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General NK Singh, GOC 3 Corps and Major General BS Sachar, GOC Dah Division and other civilian officials.

While at Dinjan Military Station, GOC Dah Division, Major General BS Sachar briefed him on the security situation in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh and the state of operational preparedness of the Dah Division.

The General complimented the efforts of the Dah Division in all fields, despite difficult terrain and a vast area of responsibility.

He complimented the Dah Division for helping the Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh by giving them Two Metric Ton of food stocks to the civil administration in time of need. It may be recalled that the district has been cut off since first week of April 10 due to heavy rains.

The General was accompanied by his wife Bharti Singh, who interacted with the ladies of the Dah Family and appreciated the support being provided to the families of the brave soldiers who are deployed at the far flung and difficult areas.

Tawang and 7 others identified as Minority Concentrated District

TAWANG, May 3: Tawang is one of the seven districts in Arunachal to be identified as Minority Concentrated District (MCD). All together 90 districts has been identified as MCD all over the country. Identification of MCD is based on the survey conducted by government on the basis of backwardness parameters of minority population on 2001 census. The indicators were region specific socio-economic and basic amenities which were found to be below the national average.

In Tawang to operatio-nalize the programme, a District Level Committee is constituted to prepare Multi Sectoral Development Plan (MSDP) on the basis of the baseline survey report of the government. While addressing the District Level Committee today, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Gamli Padu stressed that the main aim should be to address development deficits with special reference to interior areas of the district. Besides this, the main focus should be on felt need based schemes within the entire district, he added.

Further, He asked the line departments to immediately identify schemes after involving various stake holders under the programme and submit to CDPO, so that, the Multi Sectoral Development Plan could be placed before the State Level Committee on time. (DIPRO)

AYA organize protest rally

ITANAGAR, May 3: Apatani Youth Association (AYA) resolved to continue the democratic movement to register their strong protest against the murder of Late Habung Chunya till the demands of the association is fulfilled by the concerned authority. In its mass protest rally conducted at Ziro/Hapoli today, members from NGOs, Apatani Students’ Union, GBs, Old Ziro Market Welfare Committee, Hapoli Bazar Committee, Ziro Chamber of Commerce and Industries, AAPWU Lower Subansiri District Unit and Public participated in the protest rally.

Meanwhile, AYA submitted a four points memorandum to DC Lower Subansiri District demanding immediate conviction of the accused person involved in the brutal murder of Habung Chunya, deployment of police personnel at Old Ziro Police Beat Point, regular night patrolling in Ziro/Hapoli township. It further demanded the administration not to release the accused person on bail.

Police arrests 2 suspects in murder case

ITANAGAR, May 3: Papum Pare Police arrested two suspects in the murder case of Dohu Raju alias Dohu Don and interrogations of the arrested persons were on.

While informing this, Papum Pare SP Hibu Tamang appealed to Palin Area Youth Welfare Association and All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte Tarak Langdi Students union to cooperate with police by sharing informations or giving clues which may lead to arrest of the culprit instead of proposing dharna. A case has been registered at Naharlagun police station U/S302/307/34 IPC and police has been rigorously pursuing investigation of the case on day to day basis, the SP said in a release.

Raju, a student of DNG College was killed by unknown person in his house at Papu Village in the intervening night of April 19.

Meanwhile, All Kurung Kumey District Students’ Union (AKKDSU) has supported the proposed dharna organized jointly by Palin Area Youth Welfare Association and All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte Tarak Langdi Students’ Union in front of Capital Complex Deputy Commissioner’s office on May 5 demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the killing of Dohu Raju. It also demanded constitution of a high-power enquiry committee for investigating the matter.

Kurung Kumey to play Papum Pare in first semis

ITANAGAR, May 3: The semi-finals teams of the 9th Tadar Tang Memorial State Level Football Tournament have been decided with Upper Subansiri entering into semi-finals with a 3-2 win over Lower Dibang Valley in the last quarterfinal match played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, Naharlagun today. Other teams are Kurung Kumey, Papum Pare and Lower Subansiri.

The first semi-finals will be held between Kurung Kumey and host Papum Pare at 3 pm on Tuesday while Upper Subansiri will play against Lower Subansiri in the second semifinal on May five.

Kurung Kumey team entered the last four following withdrawal of their opponent East Kameng team from the tournament. Earlier, the match between the two teams had to be stopped in the last minute following crowd disruption.

Women’s Association demands action against VC

ITANAGAR, May 3: The Rajiv Gandhi University Women and Children Welfare Association (RGUWCWA) organized a mass procession today in the University Campus, demanding action against Vice-Chancellor Prof. KC Belliappa and his immediate removal from the campus for alleged misconduct with women.

The Association President Nangram Yaper and its Vice President Tana Vandana has alleged that the present VC has targeted women of the campus one after another to defame them in public. The VC has targeted three innocent women of the campus without facts and reasons, they said.

His irresponsible comment on women of the campus has lowered the sanctity of the women community, they added. Association urged upon the Union and state governments to initiate disciplinary action against VC by removing him from the campus and his designation to end the crisis facing the lone University.

The Association has also urged upon state and national women commission to intervene in the matter.

On the other hand Arunachal Law Students Union has said that VC should leave the campus. It demanded state government and the High Powered Committee to look into the demands of the students to restore normalcy in the campus.
